Social media is about getting attention and eventually building relationships.

SMM is built around the idea that you need to create content and then distribute that content on platforms to people who care enough about your content to share that content with others.

Social media is nothing more than a set of tools.  They’re rather boring to talk about.  What needs to be talked about is the action and impact your content can have on the community.  If you can’t make your content standout then it’s game over.  SMM is about using the correct platforms to network with people, who care about what you’re sharing and then building that network into a group of friends.

The relationship starts before the first date.

I believe the relationship starts before someone becomes a customer.  Every point of contact is an opportunity to build a relationship.  Understanding how to build that relationship is what we should be talking about and not the tools that are used.

Folks can talk tell their blue in the face about the death of Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and whoever else isn’t acting the way they want them too.  But that’s not what social media marketing is about.  Those are just boring tools.
